episode 36
We first meet Kouga when Inuyasha and co. stumble a small and helpelss village (Rin comes from this village), which Kouga and his tribe seem to attack every chance they get. Anyways, being the heroic team Inuyasha and co. are, they begin to find out what seems to be the problem: a wolf yokai. When Inuyasha and co. come across Kouga, Kagome instantly senses the three shikon jewels embedded in his arms and legs, and thus, Inuyasha whips out his Tetsuaiga and begins battle with Kouga. After the two begin to battle, Inuyasha uses the windscar and the jewels in Kouga's body begin to have conflict, so he tells his pack to retreat. Later on, Kouga then sends some spies to observe Inuyasha, and by then, Kouga figures out Inuyasha is extremely dangerous, Kouga's also finally realize's Kagome's special talent at seeing the shikon jewels, even when they aren't visible. Inuyasha decides it's his duty in life now to beat the crap out of Kouga for the insults they exchanged before battle. Upon stalking the scent of Kouga's tribe in the mountain, the gang is, as well, stalked by Kouga's tribespeople higher up. When spotted, Kouga makes his move and runs down to snatch Kagome from the gang. Of course, Inuyasha throws a fit, and both Sango and Miroku are shocked.
Kouga then takes Kagome back to his tribe, and as expected, his tribesmen assume that Kagome is their new prey to eat. Kouga threatens them and tells them he'll kill anyone who tries to eat her. His tribe heeds Kouga's warning. By this time, both Shippou (who grabbed onto Kouga's tail during the kidnap) and Kagome are Kouga's 'prisoners'.
episode 37
Also known as "The Man Who Fell in Love with Kagome". In this episode, we find Kagome attempting to escape Kouga's wolf den with Shippou disguised as Kouga. Unfortunately, the wolves catch on to Shippou, and only Shippou escapes. The tribe begins to surround Kagome, ready to eat her alive, when Kouga comes in and notices. Kouga then decides it's best to make Kagome his wife and states, "Wolves mate for life, so you're mine now for good".. and unexpectedly, Kagome bitchslaps Kouga, leaving a large red mark. She explains to Kouga that she is "already seeing someone" and that someone is Inuyasha. Kouga is, of course, a bit jealous, but his overconfidence overshadows his jealousy. He tells Kagome that he'll kill Inuyasha someday to break the competiton. Meanwhile, Sango, Miroku and Inuyasha are desperately looking for Kagome from below the den, also witnessing the "Birds of Paradise" flying overhead. Miroku plots to somehow get to the den by telling Inuyasha to get 'captured' by one of the birds, figuring that maybe the birds are in alliance with the wolves. Inuyasha goes and follows Miroku's plan, but is soon met by Shippou on the side of the moutain. Shippou explains what is going on between the Birds of Paradise and the wolf pack (they happen to be at war instead of an alliance), and of course, Inuyasha breaks free of the bird's hold. The scene switches back to Kouga and Kagome with the wolf tribe, waiting just below the nesting grounds of the birds of paradise. Kagome decides to aid the tribe in order for her life to be saved; so she senses the jewel shards at the peak. Kouga lifts Kagome and up and dashes to the peak, looking for the shard. They discover that the shard is held within the mouth of the leader(s) (the two leaders are stuck to one bird) of the Birds of Paradise, and Kouga realizes that it is way too dangerous for him to be up there with Kagome, so he sends her down. When Kouga is just about to reach halfway to the top of the mountain, Inuyasha arrives just in time to save Kagome and the wolf tribe from being eaten and attacked. Kouga notices Inuyasha's unexpected arrival, and again, insults Inuyasha calling him a "mutt", and totally admitting his love for Kagome. This really ticks Inuyasha off, so Inuyasha decides to follow Kouga up the mountain to the leader; just as Kouga sticks a giant halbred (pole with a bladed end) in the mouth of the leader, the leader of the birds attempts to bite off Kouga's arm, leaving a huge scar. When Kouga breaks free of the bird's bind, the shard in one of his arms had already been swallowed up by the bird. Inuyasha then comes in and uses the Kaze no Kizu (Windscar) to defeat the birds of paradise leader. Afterwards, Kouga is rushed down from the summit with his large wound, Inuyasha challenging Kouga to finish what they had started. Kouga is up for the challenge, but his body certainly isn't. Kagome holds Kouga in her arms and tells him not to move so much; and lets Kouga escape Inuyasha's challenge. At the end of the episode is your usual Kagome-fight-Inuyasha-for-strange-reasons.
Of course, these are summaries of only his FIRST appearance. Kouga is mentioned throughout the entire series, and even now, which I hear he's tagging along with Inuyasha's group now. Kouga is a valued character throughout Inuyasha and it is doubtful his role will ever cease to exist (like that of Kagura's). Please look out for him in later episodes :) Especially the ones with Bankotsu in them.
